One Redditor felt strongly enough about paint color names that he changed them. Purple = “Barney’s Blood” and Orange = “Ugly Living Room (Seriously, Don’t)” Brilliant! I’ve always wondered who, exactly, in charge of naming paint colors. Sometimes, it just feels so arbitrary: Why did someone choose “eggshell” instead of “cream?” Why is that shade of gray called “dirty linen?” Why are these two nearly identical shades of red called “tomato” and “cherry tomato?” Whose job is this, anyway?

Apparently, one Redditor had similar feelings about it, because he took it upon himself to rename the paint swatches he found in the hardware store. His ridiculous approach to naming these colors is probably almost as ridiculous as their original names. Plus, “Olivia Newton John” would look great in my living room.
