It was a unbelievable situation: a 9-year-old homeless boy, photographed while doing his homework outside of a McDonald’s in the Philippines. But what happened next turned his tragedy into triumph.

According to sources, the boy is doing his work outside a McDonald’s in the Philippines. His name is Daniel, and he sometimes does his homework here while his mother works nearby.

He doesn’t have electricity at his home, and so the lights of the restaurant help him see his work.

After the photo was posted, a miracle happened for Daniel and his family.

And it would be hard to find someone more deserving. Daniel works incredibly hard at his schoolwork, despite his circumstances.

Meanwhile, his mother works equally as hard: After their house was destroyed in a fire, she struggled to make ends meet. She has a job, but only makes about 80 Philippine pesos a day – the equivalent of $1.77.

“He’s a very studious and determined boy,” his mother said. “He would insist on going to school without his lunch money because I have no money to give. He always tells me ‘Mama, I don’t want to stay poor. I want to reach my dreams.’ “

So what miracle occurred for this amazing child?
